Made on a still Wednesday in late November in the Lebanon Valley — the hawk had been there long before the camera arrived. A hawk perches in the bare late fall landscape, the season stripped back to its essentials. There is something right about the day before everything gets loud — going out with patience and stillness, waiting for a bird that doesn't know it's being watched. This photograph was made in that spirit.
